Australia’s famous bearded bakers graced Washington, DC with their bearded presence. Did I mention they’re all bearded? Serving up a traditional Middle Eastern dessert, which is also the namesake of their bakeries located in Australia and New York. Knafeh is a sweet cheesy, custardy dessert with a crunchy topping, like crême brulée. It’s finished with a rose water syrup and small pile of crushed pistachios. There’s no menu. No complicated orders. Just a ton of knafeh going in and out of the oven.
If you ask me though, the best part about this ‘Jerusalem Street Food’ bakery was the endless singing and dancing. To keep things interesting, every once in a while, the bakers hop the counter and keep the crowd entertained as they’re waiting in line. They definitely know how to have a good time. It may just look like a bunch of brothers baking in a giant shipping container, but in reality it’s so much more than that. It’s a non-stop party and super lit. So, if you’re headed to NY or Australia anytime soon, I highly recommend visiting and stuffing your face with as much knafeh as possible.
